How We Teach

Across all our courses offered at SBC Canford Summer School, our aim is to develop both English language skills and transferable skills that will help our students to prepare for future academic and career success in the 21st century.

21st Century Skills

Alongside language learning, students at SBC Canford are encouraged to develop key transferable skills in the following areas:

  • Effective communication
  • Critical thinking
  • Collaboration
  • Creativity
  • Research and digital literacy
  • Social and cross-cultural awareness

Time to Shine

To encourage our students to develop these transferable life and learning skills, our SBC Canford students will participate in an engaging Time to Shine research project each week, which ends with all students giving a short presentation in English.

By taking part in these collaborative projects, our students will develop their ability to communicate effectively with their peers, learn to think clearly and objectively, have the opportunity to devise and act on creative ideas to form their presentations, and nurture their social and cross-cultural skills.

Additional Study Options

These courses are ideal for students who would benefit from additional tuition in English Speaking or English Writing skills. For an additional cost, we offer Intensive English classes on two afternoons per week giving students an extra 5 hours of tuition per week.
